Axminster

An Axminster carpet is a woven carpet: the tufts and the backing are woven together at the same time. This is distinctly different to a tufted carpet where the backing is glued on after manufacture. Although modern looms are far more efficient and produce a more uniform quality, the style of weaving has not changed for hundreds of years.

The first stage is blending the yarn. OW Hospitality use a blend of 35% British Wool, 25% Mediterranean Wool, 20% New Zealand Wool, and 20% 6.6 Nylon to create the complete 80% Wool 20% Nylon blend. This is carried out in house and at the first stage of our vertically integrated process. Once the yarn has gone through the spinning and dyeing process it is then wound onto bobbins which are positioned at the back of the loom on a creel. Up to 9,000 bobbins in a creel can feed a single loom. This is when the Axminster manufacturing commences.
